Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) (2018) stated that cancer is the second leading cause of death in the world, which causes 8.8 million deaths in 2015. Approximately 70% deaths of cancer occur in low and middle income countries. The aim of the study is to determine the relationship between knowledge and motivation with breast self examination (BSE) on students in Midwifery Diploma Study Program University of Dehasen Bengkulu in 2018. The research method of this study uses analytic by using a cross-sectional design. The population in this study were all students in Midwifery Diploma Study Program University of Dehasen Bengkulu in 2018 as many as 143 people, with a total sample of 59 respondents taken by Stratified Random Sampling technique. Data collection was carried out with primary data; the data obtained were analyzed by using univariate and bivariate analysis. The results showed that more than half of the respondents (54.2%), had good knowledge about BSE, almost most of the respondents (50.8%), had poor motivation about BSE, more than some respondents (66.1%), not good at doing BSE, there is a relationship of knowledge with breast self examination (BSE) and there is a relationship between motivation with breast self examination (BSE) on students in Midwifery Diploma Study Program University of Dehasen Bengkulu. To the Institute of Midwifery Study Program, Faculty of Health sciences, University of Dehasen Bengkulu is expected to be able to improve the socialization of BSE to female students by doing routine practice to female students.
