Abstract
Background and objectives: In 2015, Indonesia ranked seventh in the world. In the world for the highest prevalence of diabetics in the world with an estimated number of people with diabetes by 10 million (IDF Atlas, 2015). The purpose of the study was to determine the factors associated with the independence of patients in the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in the Tais Health Center Work Area in 2018. Research method: the research used is analytic research using cross sectional design. The population was all type 2 DM patients who were in the Bengkulu Tais Bengkulu Health Center Work Area as many as 44 people. Sampling in this study uses a total sampling method. Data collection methods used in this study were using primary data, analyzed univariately and bivariately by using the chi-square test. The results showed that almost (45.5%) respondents with age ≥ 60 years, some (54.5%) respondents with low education, some (54.5%) respondents with low socioeconomic, almost all (93.2 %) respondents have less knowledge about DM. There is no significant relationship between age, education, socio-economic and knowledge of mothers with the independence of patients in DM care in the work area of Tais Health Center in 2018. Conclusions and Suggestions: for Puskesmas is expected to improve the quality of counseling services and the frequency of counseling about DM so that it can increase knowledge which can have an impact on patients being able to care for themselves independently Keywords: Age, Education, Social Economy Knowledge, Patient Independence in DM
