Abstract
Background: Rabies was a disease that was becoming a national priority. Number of cases of bites Animal rabies (HPR) was still high nationally each year. This disease when already showing clinical symptoms in animals and humans had always ends with death (CFR 100%), giving rise to anxiety and fear for people who were bitten and concern for the community. Purpose: to observe the correlation of characteristic of dog owner toward Rabies Prevention Program participation in Selebar Region Bengkulu 2016. Method: This type of research was an analytical method using cross sectional design. The sample in this study amounted to 59 respondents. The study was conducted in Selebar Region Bengkuluin June to July 2016. Data obtained through questionnaires. Data analysis was carried out gradually include univariate, bivariate analysis using Chi-square test in SPSS. Result: Results of statistical test Chi-square showed that there was a significant correlation between the knowledge of the owner of the dog with the participation of owners of dogs in the prevention of rabies (p = 0.017), There was a relationship attitude of the respondent with the participation of owners of dogs in the prevention of rabies (p = 0.008), There was a relationship meaningful work to the dog owner's participation in rabies prevention program (p = 0.027), There was a significant relationship between the level of income with the participation of dog owners in rabies prevention program at the work Area-wide District of the city of Bengkulu 2016 (p = 0.012). Conclusion: There was a relationship characteristic of dog owners (including Employment, income, knowledge, and attitudes) towards participation in rabies prevention program.
