Abstract

Attitudes and Roles of parents are very important as a basis for the formation of behavior that supports or does not support children's oral and dental hygiene. Child behavior in maintaining dental and oral hygiene is by brushing your teeth regularly and correctly. This study aims to determine the relationship of attitudes and the role of parents to tooth brushing behavior in children 6-12 years at the work area of the Public Health in Sawah Lebar of Bengkulu City in 2018. This study was used descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. This research started from June 11 to July 11, with 470 populations with 82 samples of parents who had 6-12 years old children using the Proportional Stratified Random Sampling technique. The results of this study showed that most of the respondents 27 (32.9%) of respondents who have unfavorable parents attitudes, almost a portion of respondents 28 (34.1) respondents who have the role of parents are not good, almost a portion of respondents 22 (26, 8%) respondents who have bad brushing behavior. There is a significant relationship between the attitudes of parents to tooth brushing behavior in children 6-12 years with a value of p value = 0,000 value <α 0,05. There is a significant relationship between the role of parents on tooth brushing behavior in children 6-12 years with p value = 0,000 <α 0,05. It is expected that old men who have 6-12 years old children at the work area of the Public Health in Sawah Lebar of Bengkulu City need an increase in dental and oral health knowledge at the work area of the Public Health in Sawah Lebar of Bengkulu City in 2018.
